Installing VirtualBox

Installing VirtualBox

To install VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org), a virtualization software that enables the operation of an unmodified operating system with all its installed software in a special environment on your existing operating system, follow the steps outlined below. The virtualization software intercepts access to certain hardware components and features to create the virtual machine, known as the guest, while the physical computer is called the host.

VirtualBox can be installed on a host PC running Windows, Linux, OS X, or Solaris. For the purpose of this chapter, we will focus on installing it on a Windows PC. You can select the Windows platform from a list of options and follow the prompts to complete the installation process. During the installation, you will be prompted to install virtual drivers, which you should accept. The installation process is straightforward, and you are unlikely to encounter any issues.
